Reliability 1 to 10: 9
Reliability explained:
Absolutely reliable. Have had no issues with it and I have put around 40,000kms on the clock since purchase when it had already done 20,000kms. Initially thought I may experience some issues through the hotter months of summer, but it just soldiered on. Uses very little oil (as it should!) and is not too bad on fuel for a bike of this size. Starts first time, every time - I do use it every day riding it to work as well as longer rides on weekends.
Performance 1 to 10: 10
Performance explained:
Performance can be a very subjective issue when talking amongst other riders, but for me the GSX is brilliant. On purchase I did fit a Power Commander and had it dynoed to sort out my fueling, something that I would recommend to anyone considering one of these - 118hp on dyno too. I have pushed this bike to my limits and it has performed beautifully. I also do a lot of two up riding and even with the extra weight there is almost no noticeable difference. It is a very quick bike and is very responsive right through the range. The available torque really allows for great throttle response right across the rev range and with a red line of 9000rpm it is not a screamer, like a true sporty. Grunt master indeed.
Comfort 1 to 10: 10
Comfort explained:
If you are looking for a bike to do plenty of miles with a pillion, you won’t go wrong here. The seat is fantastic for 2 up and provides great comfort from the tank to the tail - no token pillion pad on this bike, that is for sure. And with the large seat comes a massive under seat storage area - I usually carry all my wet weather gear along with a camera, and there is still room for more. I am a bigger bloke and have found the standard bars/risers and pegs fine for me, so no need for extra money there. Some people may want to add a small screen, but I find the wind on my face and chest to be no problem at all.
Body looks/quality 1 to 10: 9
Looks/Quality explained:
The quality of the GSX is great - everything you need is within easy reach. Before purchasing the GSX I really wasn’t overly impressed with the looks, but I found the one I purchased and it had been customized a little - this changed the look enough for me to become really interested in them, and I eventually purchased mine. It is the best looking naked bike on the market - obviously a biased opinion!!!
Things that have gone wrong:
The only issue that I have had was a fuel filter issue when I purchased the bike. This was picked up when I had the bike dynoed and a replacement was fitted - mind you I was lucky enough to find a second hand one as the price of a new one was close to $1k. Nothing else has gone wrong with it so far.
Overall summary/Final comments about this bike:
If you are looking for a bike with performance, comfort for rider and pillion as well as great reliability, you really should consider a GSX1400. I have never been able to ride a true sports bike due to weak wrists and the upright position on the GSX suits me perfectly. I have added to the customizations to make it fit me perfectly and this has also added a bit more to its already good looks. It goes when I tell it to and is very easy to maneuver in city traffic. It has provided me with plenty of fun, both on and even off road and I look forward to many more years of cruising on it.
Would you recommend this bike to someone else?: Yes
Overall tallied rating:

(actually 9.5 but to get a 10 rating needs to be all 10’s, meaning a perfect bike!)
